In the heart of historic downtown Gallipolis, Ohio, The Purple Turtle is often called a quintessential "Grandmother's shop." The owner, Karen Smith, is a grandmother herself. Affectionately known as "Babe" among her three grandchildren, she knows just what it takes to make a gift from grandma extra special. She can usually be found at the store rearranging displays or watering the purple petunias in the window boxes.
Most days you can also find employees Merissa and Val working alongside Karen to put together a new window display or wrapping presents in the special purple paper. It is not unusual to see the young patrons playing with the Melissa and Doug toys in the middle of the store (a house favorite is the big blue Mailbox!).
The Purple Turtle is a small store, specializing in boutique items that make a shower or other gift exceptional. We carry a wide variety of specialty blankets and hooded towels. In stock, you can also find a great selection of Petunia Pickle Bottom and Vera Bradley diaper bags. The superior toy collection includes items by Melissa and Doug, Haba, Mary Meyer, and Big Belly Banks. You should see the Coin Critters money banks that make animal sounds when coins are inserted. Seasonal items include Halloween costumes by LeTop, Christmas and Easter dresses by Jaedyn B., Little Mass, Biscotti, and Baby Lulu. So check back frequently for your special occassion items. In the store, you may find a selection of christening gowns by Little Things Mean Alot that cannot be found on our website; however, please call for assistance in locating a special gown.
Along with children's specialty items, you can find a wide variety of Vera Bradley merchandise, and jewelry by She Beads, Pandora, and Troll.
